"THE TABERNACLE" Part #4

Welcome back and we continue with our study of The Tabernacle as seen in The Old Testament.

V. THE CANDLESTICK REPRESENTS GOD’S WORD

A lamp stand made from one talent of "pure gold" was to be placed at the south side of the holy place, positioned in such a way that it would illuminate the area in front of it. According to the instructions it had a central shaft with three branches rising upwards and outwards from the two sides of the shaft, making six branches. The shaft rested on a base that is not described; some have suggested a tripod-type support.

At three places on each branch were cups made like almonds accompanied by a downward-turned floral capital. The central shaft also had such ornaments. The lamp-stand was to be supplied with "snuffers" or tongs for drawing up the wicks, and trays also of pure gold.
"Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path" (PS. 119:105).
"The unfolding of Thy words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple" (PS. 119:130).
When we look at God's Word and take it as written by HIS Holy Spirit, it will give light to every area of living.

VI. THE TABLE OF SHEW BREAD REPRESENTS THE LORD’S SUPPER

The instructions Moses received on the mountain called for a table of acacia wood overlaid with "pure gold", 2 cubits long, 1 cubit wide, and 1 ½ cubits high. Like the ark, it was decorated with a rim of gold, apparently running around the edge of the ends and sides.
"Pure gold" was to be used in making "plates" on which the bread was brought to the table. This was sometimes referred to as "bread of the presence" because of the presence of God. This table of show bread was to be located on the north side of the tabernacle opposite of the lamp stand.
THE TABLE OF SHEW BREAD was a "type" of the Lord’s Supper as used in the New Testament church. It was to be eaten by the priest. It was to be eaten weekly (contrary to the practice of the denominations).
It was also to be eaten in the presence of God. (Luke 22:17-18)

The Tabernacle was a temporary construction, but the Church is permanent and will last forever in Glory with God. I want to encourage each one reading this devotion to make double sure you are following the ways of God and not the dictates of man. Continue to be faithful and we will continue this study next week.
