Hello everyone and welcome back to our continuing study on "THE TABERNACLE". Today we begin part three and will look at two more areas that coincide, or are TYPES from the old testament. So let us begin;
III. THE OUTER COURT REPRESENTS THE WORLD
As specified in the instructions we find in God's word, a rectangular courtyard 100 cubits long on the north and south side and 50 cubits on the east and west surrounded the tabernacle. The courtyard was enclosed by hangings of fine white linen 5 cubits high, which were suspended by silver hooks from pillars of wood: twenty pillars on the north and south sides, ten on the east and west.
The eastern side of the courtyard was to be left without hangings for a space of 20 cubits. This entrance was covered by a screen made of the same materials as the screen at the tabernacle front, suspended from four pillars.
The courtyard of the tabernacle could be entered by all Israelites of both male and female when they brought their sacrifices and offerings to the entrance of the tent of meeting and when they gathered to hear a message that came from the mouth of God through His speaker. It had less sanctity than the tabernacle itself, from which the common person was barred. Nonetheless it still possessed a measure of sanctity; here "holy things" were to be eaten and Israelites in a state of ritual impurity were not allowed to approach.
IV. THE HOLY PLACE REPRESENTS THE CHURCH
Whereas all Israelites could enter the outer court, only the Levites, those who were priests, could enter THE HOLY PLACE. Remember, Christians are called "a royal priesthood" before God, and only priests are in THE HOLY PLACE, the church. Within THE HOLY PLACE, the church, is included the lamp stand, the table of showbread, and the altar of incense, all typical items of worship for the church.
Some in the denominational world would put the laver inside the church, because many feel that one is saved and then baptized. But the New Testament teaches just the opposite. God's Word states very clearly that we are saved at the point of baptism (burial) as sin is removed by God's working. All this is as the result of faith. We are then added to the church or body of Jesus Christ. (Colossians 2:12f)
I will end there for today and pick this up next time. God bless...
