These devotions are designed to encourage as well as teach both the Christian and those in search of the will of Christ. They are undenominational in nature and do not follow or look to any man made ideas. Every answer in life can be found in God's Holy Word without adding or taking away from what God has written by His Holy Spirit to His Apostles.

5) "Feet that are swift in running to evil."
We are now on our fifth point...
5) Feet that are swift in running to evil.
This describes those who are eager to do wrong. They will even go out of their way to run to evil.
Again, I recall back to when I was in high school I knew of a lot of kids who were quick to rebel against their parents and they would do everything wrong that they could simply because their parents told them not to.
I knew one young man that would sneak out of his house and go on out drinking. Well, one night he got so drunk that he climbed the water tower and wouldn't come down and the police and the firemen had to help him down.
Another aspect that could be included in this is gossip. Again, thanks to the media, our society has been trained to spread gossip without looking into the facts to see if what they are spreading is true.
There are some people who can't wait to tell someone about the latest gossip they have heard. But, as Christians we must watch ourselves and make sure that we are not spreading lies and rumors.
Even if someone tells you something that is true you still need ask yourself is there really any need for me to tell this to someone else.
I have one Biblical example that shows a man literally running toward evil. It has to do with what happens after Naaman is cured from his leprosy.
2 Kings 5:20-27 "Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, "My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him." So Gehazi hurried after Naaman. When Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the chariot to meet him. "Is everything all right?" he asked. "Everything is all right," Gehazi answered. "My master sent me to say, 'Two young men from the company of the prophets have just come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent {22 That is, about 75 pounds (about 34 kilograms)} of silver and two sets of clothing.'" "By all means, take two talents," said Naaman. He urged Gehazi to accept them, and then tied up the two talents of silver in two bags, with two sets of clothing. He gave them to two of his servants, and they carried them ahead of Gehazi. When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the things from the servants and put them away in the house. He sent the men away and they left. Then he went in and stood before his master Elisha. "Where have you been, Gehazi?" Elisha asked. "Your servant didn't go anywhere," Gehazi answered. But Elisha said to him, "Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to take money, or to accept clothes, olive groves, vineyards, flocks, herds, or menservants and maidservants? Naaman's leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever." Then Gehazi went from Elisha's presence and he was leprous, as white as snow. (NIV)
Gehazi was so eager to deceive and make a quick buck that he ran after Naaman to pursue his evil.
As Christians we have to be very careful that we don't find ourselves being like Gehazi and pursuing after evil things.
Our last example comes from Paul's first missionary journey when he comes face to face with an evil sorcerer.
Acts 13:6-11 "They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,
7 who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God.
8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith.
9 Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said,
10 "You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?
11 Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind, and for a time you will be unable to see the light of the sun." Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand." (NIV)
Paul makes it clear that those who are evil, who are swift to run to evil, are sons of the devil and enemy to God.
The way to oppose this sin is easy, simply pursue righteousness instead of evil; live right and find areas to serve others rather than find something about which to gossip.
Ask yourself one question, "What good news have I told someone recently?"
God bless until our next time...
