"Know The Truth"

Read John 8:31 &32.
It should be evident that Jesus is addressing His remarks to a group of Jews at the Feast of Tabernacles who had, in some way, revealed a superficial belief in Him. They wanted to believe in ‘A’ Messiah, but not ‘THE’ Messiah. They were willing to follow, fight or even die for a physical, earthly King, but they would hear nothing of a spiritual King who demanded sovereignty over their motives, thoughts and actions. They would gladly serve Him with their lips, but not with their entire being.
In verse 31 Jesus plainly states the requirements for genuine discipleship to The true Messiah. To abide in His Word is to make that Word our dwelling place and to live by The Word as the Bread of Life. His Word is the ONLY source of true life (John 6:63); and to abide in it is to keep it faithfully (I Cor. 15:58; Acts 2:42; Col. 1:23; II John 9). In John 13:35 Jesus tells how we are to express our witness and our discipleship to the world, by loving one another as He has loved us.
In verse 32 we find a great paradox. To really be absolutely free, every man must submit himself completely to Christ’s Word. According to the Greek language so much more than intellectual recognition is involved in “knowing” the truth as Jesus means it here. To “know the truth” is also to do it and to experience it (John 7:17; Psalm 1). There are those who are aware of the truth intellectually, but yet do not “know” The Truth because they refuse to live according to precepts of truth.
When Christ speaks of truth He speaks of all that is embodied in the Life He lived and the doctrines He taught; both in His Incarnation and by the Holy Spirit through the Apostles. That which is truth is that which is real, genuine and authentic. The truth is not a philosophical abstraction which is reached by the reasoning of the human mind. It is not relative to time or change or feeling. Truth, all truth, originates in God and is divine and everlasting fact. The truth that Jesus Christ brings and desires for men to trust in, is the eternal truths of God. These are completely contrary from the things which are temporary (II Cor. 4:18-5:7; Jn. 6:27; Heb. 12:27; I Jn. 2:15-17; Psa. 102:25 -26). But the truth of God abides forever and is unchangeable. Know The Truth, Jesus Christ The Word, and it will set you free...God Bless.
